Pan American

Pan American S-42 Hong Kong Clipper

Price: $165.00
S&H: $ 15.00
Total: $180.00

Exclusive photos of Pan American's famous Hong Kong Clipper photographed at Baranquilla, Columbia in 1935. Framed with San Francisco - Macao First Flight cover actually carried aboard the aircraft and original period  baggage sticker which would have adorned the suitcases of those lucky enough to fly her. The Sikorsky S-42 was designed in response to Pan American's requirement for a replacement for the S-40, the original Clipper which would embody the state of the art in aircraft design. The S-42 was exactly that. It could carry twice as many people as a DC-3 twice as far and at the same   speed. The aircraft in the photo, NC823M, had the most colorful career of any of the S-42s. Pan American took delivery of 23M in December of 1934, named her West Indies Clipper, and used her on the Latin American routes. The photograph here was  taken at Baranquilla, Columbia in 1935 by the aunt of one of our customers. In early 1935 she was highly modified, renamed Pan American Clipper , and used for the long-range Pacific Survey flights which astounded the World between April and October, 1935. With her name changed again to Hong Kong Clipper in 1937, 23M  was used to fly the shuttle initially between Manila and Macao, then Manila and Hong Kong.
