Al Williams was a Vice President of Aviation with the Gulf Oil Company. His airshow appearances and record-breaking flights in the 1930s with his Famous GulfHawk (a civilian version of the Grumman F3F Navy fighter) did much to popularize aviation in the U.S. as well as sell a lot of Gulf  gasoline.
